Walker County VINE Transition
Texas replaced statewide county VINE with Texas IVSS–Counties on September 1, 2025. That change controls a current Walker County VINE inmate check. The older VINELink name still appears in saved links and old instructions, but the current county search and registration route is IVSS–Counties. Existing VINE registrations migrated during the change. Users should not cancel or recreate an alert solely because an old notice used the VINE name.
The state also maintains TDCJ IVSS for post-conviction events tied to state prisoners and people under state supervision. The two portals are not interchangeable. IVSS–Counties follows a Walker County Jail event. TDCJ IVSS follows a state-prison case. Neither covers the Bureau of Prisons or immigration detention.

Walker County Release Alert Coverage
Start with the last custodian. Walker County Jail is a local jail. Its notification path is IVSS–Counties, while its durable release proof comes from Walker County Odyssey jail and bond records or a written Sheriff's Office request. Byrd, Ellis, Estelle, Goree, Holliday, Huntsville, and Wynne are TDCJ prisons in Walker County. A person held at one of those units belongs in TDCJ systems even though the location says Huntsville.
A transfer can look like release from one database. It is not always freedom from custody. If Walker County transferred someone to TDCJ, the county event ends local custody and the state record becomes the next link. A federal or immigration transfer requires the relevant federal channel. Search Walker County IVSS
The county portal supports a specific-person search. It accepts a full or partial name, DOC ID, State Identification number, jail ID, or permanent booking number. For partial names, the portal recommends at least the first three letters of the first name and first three letters of the last name, separated by a space. CAPTCHA completion is required. Strong identifiers are better than a name alone because common names and spelling variants can return the wrong record.
- Open Texas IVSS–Counties and select the Walker County or agency context shown by the live portal.
- Enter the full name or a known identifier. Complete the CAPTCHA and submit the search.
- Compare the name, age or birth details, jail or booking number, and custodian shown. Do not open a match based only on a similar name.
- Read the custody status and event. If release appears, note the event details and then confirm them in Odyssey or with WCSO.
- If the person was transferred to TDCJ, continue in the state offender search and TDCJ IVSS instead of treating the county event as community release.

Walker County IVSS Release Fields
IVSS is built for timely custody events, not for creating a complete jail ledger. Read each field in that limited role. A release event supports the conclusion that the feed received a release-related update. It may not supply the exact legal basis, releasing authority, destination, or complete time that a documentary request can return.

A released person may no longer appear in a new search because the portal focuses on people currently in custody or under supervision. A prior registration can stay active if the person disappears, in case the person later returns to custody. Notification history is therefore more useful than assuming that a no-result search proves release.

Register Walker County Release Notice
Registration starts from the correctly matched person or event. Current delivery methods include text, telephone call, and email. The portal also permits preferred hours, blackout dates, paused notices, contact-detail updates, and review of notification history. Choose only the events and methods the live interface offers.
- Open the matched IVSS–Counties record and select its notify or register control.
- Create an account or sign in if the portal requires one. Check the identity and custodian again before continuing.
- Select release and any other supported custody events that matter, such as booking, transfer, escape, death, or a court-event change.
- Add the offered phone or email contact route. Complete the code or link verification sent by the system.
- Save the confirmation and review notification history after an alert arrives. Keep the agency record separate from the alert.
IVSS–Counties support is available at (866) 268-8959 around the clock in English and Spanish. Support can help with access and registration, but the jail or records unit remains the source for the underlying release record.
Confirm a Walker County Release
An alert should start confirmation, not end it. For a Walker County Jail event, open the county's official Odyssey launch page and examine jail records, jail bond records, and the linked court matter. Look for an actual release entry, completed jail event, bond order, dismissal, sentence, or receiving agency. An order may authorize departure before staff execute it, and another hold can prevent release.
If the portal does not show the needed release date, type, or destination, make a narrow written request through the WCSO Public Information Act channel. Identify the person and booking range. Ask for the booked and released date and time, release reason, destination or receiving agency, releasing authority, and bond data. This record can distinguish bond, time served, dismissal, and transfer.
For a TDCJ case, use the state inmate record and ask TDCJ for actual release or discharge information. A projected date is not proof. A parole approval is also not physical departure because plans, programs, detainers, certificates, and scheduling may still intervene.
Old Walker County VINELink PINs
Before the 2025 change, county VINE users could search VINELink or call (877) 894-8463, select a record, choose phone, email, SMS, or TTY notice, and create a four-digit PIN for telephone alerts. The PIN acknowledged the event; calls could repeat when no acknowledgment was entered. Older material also described a limited post-release display period.
Those steps are history, not the default 2026 process. Do not enter a legacy PIN unless the current migrated interface expressly asks for it. Existing registrations moved to IVSS, and the live portal's verification code or link controls. The distinction matters because stale directions can cause a user to miss a current Walker County release notice while trying to reach a retired workflow.
The separate TDCJ IVSS route remains necessary for post-conviction state events. County IVSS does not become a state-prison release record merely because seven TDCJ units sit inside Walker County.
